Radio backlights not working
Hello everyone.
My radio backlights have stopped working all of a sudden today. Not drastic i know but rather annoying. Radio etc works fine, just not the back lights. Anyway know how to repair this? It's a HU-650 stereo Cheers

Probably not bulbs
All of these panels use small bulbs for night illumination, they are a twist fitting and very easy to change (once you have some new ones!) i would guess as the other panels are working fine that perhaps a wire that provides +12v when the panel should illuminate feeding the HU radio module has perhaps broken, or maybe a joint inside the radio, the bulbs draw a fair current (approx 0.5A each x how many in the radio) so this would be my first guess on where to look for the problem. Could be their fused internally in the radio incase of a bulb failing 'short circuit'.
Looks like you have the factory phone kit, just posted a Q so maybe you know the answers on this.. http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=123770 Last edited by Thassos; May 4th, 2011 at 10:07. Reason: adding link |

By any chance do your steering wheel controls work? volume up etc?
My radio went like this when my OBD2 port fuse blew on the side panel, fuse panel. Cant remeber which one but it is listed as "service port" fuse i think as well as other things listed with it. |

Hi,
As an add on to RAN60 post. The radio 'security' measure is to not talk to the steering controls and the radio back lights don't operate if the radio can't talk to the car via the Canbus. So worth checking fuses. Have you had any other electrical problems recently? It might be related? Bob

Hi,
Last thing I would try is to disconnect the battery for a few hours. This may 'reset' some of the modules? Just remember to re-connect the battery using the Volvo method of ignition in position II. Bob
