Default Removal of XC60 glovebox. Help needed.

Hi Forum

I suspect my crazy ex has placed a GPS tracker in my car.

Any hints/tips/tricks in getting the glovebox out?

I've removed all screws I can see but there must be some clips to release?

TIA
James

There are about 8 screws and then it requires a forward pull there are I believe 5 clips holding it in, they are the type with the metal retainer so I had a few metal pieces comes out as well but they go back in, remove e airbag switch to the side it lets you see at least one of the clips, you may not need to remove the box at all then, would she have went to the effort of removing it if it is that difficult for yourself!

You might want to buy a cellphone detector, costs £30-£40 online/surveillance shops. Will pick up anything eminanting a cellphone signal, which is what these trackers use to send the info. No signal, no tracker, no need to dismantle car.

OK thanks!

The wife wouldn't have done it herself...! It would need to be hardwire in too.

Aren't these GPS trackers just that? GPS, i.e. satellite?

I'll keep you posted..

Cheers
J

If you mean one of the tracker devices that are fitted to enable recovery of you car in the event of theft then they are only enabled when the vehicle is notified as stolen to the police, they are not active 100% of the time - and most importantly cannot be use by individuals to track where the vehicle is, it is for the police and ports to identify any stolen equipment.

There is also the type that send's SMS with co-ordinates rather than internet based, they also often allow someone to dial in and listen in, bear in that all of these require an activated and topped up/ in contract sim card I cannot believe someone would go to all the effort but I am only 25 maybe I have not lived long enough!

Yes some of these devices are configured to only communicate when they are interrogated via a SMS otherwise they stay quiet.

Fleet trackers run 24x7x365, easy to buy and they fit as well.

But all tracking devices listen and to do so they generate a electro magnetic field, even though they may only start transmitting when they get a code.

Take a trip to your nearest spy equipment shop and ask them to try their debugging equipment on it. They will charge you a fee but it saves you wondering or ripping half your car apart to find nothing.
