That's what the dealer told me was related to the manifold issue but not as a pending code. If it was locked on they said it would be needing the work done.

That seems strange to me! But thanks for passing on that message.

Hmmm ok so still had no letter 2017 (mk1) D4 VEA 2.0 manual XC60......

However recently car has stalled a couple of times (missus was driving so I blamed her) and 2 weird things have happened in last couple of days......a total power loss (whole car died dash/stereo engine) when turning hard right (not a stall it just totally died, a stall has a “depress clutch” message, this was like it pressed the engine stop while driving....) also had a weird light blip where the lights flashed cut off, had an issue before with sensus rebooting and dealer updated software at last service a month ago...........

Then tonight a random flash of a “reduced engine performance “ message flashed up briefly and car had a little stutter/blip

Not noticed any smells and no error messages on dash....

Are you able to check for any stored or pending diagnostic trouble codes?

At least some of those issues sound like electrical issues. Might be worth checking the battery connections?

Funnily enough I nearly bought a basic obd2 device the other day but didn’t.... I’ll ring dealer today and see what they say....just typical I paid for the car on Monday....... but yes sounds electrical to me...

If a dealer does a software update is done through the OBD port or direct to the module?

How far into the journey did the car stall?

Prior to repair mine did this when I tried to restart the engine if I had stopped after driving a short distance.

When warm it was ok.

A new manifold will therefore be fitted tomorrow free of charge. The dealer are in the dark as to what the final fix is going to be.
Picked my car up this morning - all running fine. Inlet manifold was changed free of charge - cost to Volvo UK currently unknown because the dealer says they have not raised the invoice yet (I have asked for a copy to prove I have had the work done). They tested my engine's valves (they are required to do this by Volvo when replacing the manifold) and found no issues with them therefore they have not been replaced. FYI - it is almost exactly 100k miles since I had the final (and for me first) EGR valve and cooler fix. I mentioned to the dealer that I had read that the fix was simply going to involve a software tweak to detect problems earlier and operate the EML at which point Volvo will replace the manifold and valves if necessary FOC (i.e. there is going to be no mechanical alteration to fix the route cause) - the response from them was that this is what they are expecting. Surely this is going to cost Volvo £££££ in the medium to long term!

Software updates go via the diagnostic port where a network bus links to all computer modules. OBD2 data from the engine/transmission modules is also brought to this port.

Wasn’t sure if the modules were directly updated into the module....

Spoke to the dealer apparently my chassis is not affected by the recall so there must be a solution???? Fit the same components as were used in my engine????

Dealer said car needs to go in as it’s doing strange things and shouldn’t cut out or flash up momentary warnings......or shut down while driving....
