Smile missing in action

Hi Haydew,

Post a picture of your (lack of) butterfly, the throttle flaps inside the cylinder head are all one piece, with the black plastic butterfly (the bit you circled a few posts back) being the only part you see. (some idea of what they do in the pdf attached..)

Smile burnt out?

Hmm looks like youve had some damage in that area.. fire perhaps? pic isnt too clear, the rod sticking out might be what the throttle plastic (is/was) moulded around, could your oil leak be coming from this damaged area?, def a take it apart fix im thinking !

Thanks Thassos, I checked again and could not find any burn signs. Its all oil. The metal rod can be turned quite easy. I was worried it might involve removing the top of motor. Do you know if there is a workshop manual available like Haynes or gregorys for these xc90's.

Smile What year is your D5?

Hi C1,

Post a pic of your swirl arm, or broken linkage.. What year is your D5?

Mike- i think the later Euro4 D5/163s would have the same swirl throttle setup as the 185 but never had a close look..

Hi Thassos

Looks identical to your setup with same arm, the vehicle is a 2005 on a 55 plate.

Can get pictures if needed but need to wait until tomorrow.

Thanks

David

Smile 2 versions

You must have a Euro 4 engine then i guess, there are 2 different styles of linkage, on mine it had the socket on the butterfly end, with the plastic 'link' having a socket one end & ball the other..
