XC 60 nightmare
Can any one tell me what a ECU records? The reason I ask is that I may have to look at building a court case!
I purchased a 2010 XC60 D5 just under a year ago. Recently the service light illuminated and due to logistical reasons, the fact that a basic service was required and that I intended to run the vehicle long term I decided to take the vehicle to a local garage. After dropping the vehicle off I was notified later that day that they were having issues locating a new oil filter, they had several delivered non of which fit and that they were having to order one direct from Volvo, they stated that they would refit the old one with fresh oil and replace both oil and filter the following week. Reluctantly I agreed but being a Friday there was little other option and the fact that these actions had already been carried out I collected the vehicle. 22 miles over 4 short journeys later within a 3 day period and the engine revved off the scale, I stopped the engine by turning off the ignition, turned on the ignition and the dash lit up like an xmas tree. To cut to the chase I had the vehicle recovered to Volvo whose initial diagnosis was that it had been overfilled with oil which had been forced into the induction system and seized the engine. I informed the garage who have informed their insurance company. An engineer working on behalf of the garages insurance company has attended and inspected the engine specifically the bottom end. Volvo has informed me that the damage present is consistent with the engine having been started without oil, causing the initial damage and the subsequent engine seizure. I am currently awaiting direction from the garages insurance company as to if the claim is going to be honored however should this not be then with a substantial bill I would have no choice but to fight the case through the courts. Hence my question does anyone know what the ECU will record? I am told that a BMW ECU will record warning light duration of illumination time dates faults present and historical basically every thing that beats within the engine. Is a Volvo ECU the same may it be able to provide information that would show that issues leading to the engine damage occurred during the time that the vehicle was in the care of the garage in question? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
