Like I have always said, these eratic gauges are down to bad earth, it is just a matter of finding which one. I think the rewiring fix should be the best result.

yeah i have. I have no problem keeping the tank filled up, its just i dont know what half a tank is when i turn, i can hear the fuel slosh about a bit and so far, the gauge always reads over half full, so when it starts getting down to a quarter full, i'll top it up for now. There is a specialist Volvo place just down the road apparantly so im just gonna nip in there tomorrow and see if they can see how much it would cost to fix [It doesnt help that im disabled, and cant walk too far, so the last thing i want is to run out of fuel somewhere]!

Also, does fuel always **** out the bottom of the car when its over-filled? it normally comes out the top of the tank but as i explained when filling it up, the pump clicked off, but in my attempt to squeeze more in, it came rushing out, but i presume this is just like an overflow and i dont have a bigger problem here.

It doesnt appear to be leaking now anyway so i assume its ok.

Theres an overflow in the rubber "boot" that goes around the fuel filler neck, If you look theres a hole in the bottom of it. The "boot" catches any spilt fuel and dumps it via a tube onto the floor behind the rear wheel. Its a clever thing as it helps to stop any fuel going over the paintwork.

If you dont trust the petrol gauge and are worried about running out of fuel then carry a red container with a fivers worth of petrol in it in the boot just in case. Nothing worse than running out of fuel!! (been there done that got the T shirt!!!)

I know what you mean by walking, I too have leg problems and appreciate exactly what you are saying. The gerry can in the back is a good idea unless you don't particuarly want petrol can inside your car (kids and dog and a socially excluded smoker so I don't personally). The way I keep my tank over half full use the trip switch on speedo (if it works?) and fill up after 100-150 miles or so, as I said back to motorbikes again (regular trips to garage to fill up)..

The only time I ran out of fuel was on a motorbike at 2.30 am v long walk pushing a bike. Some bugger turned my tank onto reserve without my knowledge and dropped me right in the poo!!!

This is most likely what i'll end up doing. its full now so i presume i can do 150-200 miles on the tank (even just around town) so thats good enough for me. I think i'll just keep topping it up, its the easiest solution.

There is also now a noticable smell of fuel (or there was when i pulled up at work earlier). Its definatly not leaking from underneath, so maybe fuel got onto some of the bodywork underneath, there is a noticeable smell but its not leaking so im not sure what it is, maybe im just reading too much into it.

Well its in the garage, the fuel leak has been confirmed so i took it to the garage, and they are fixing it got a new fuel filter at trade price

There is a grinding noise when turning left now too. its not the wheel bearing because ive had it checked out. Its something thats going to be looked at when the fuel leak is fixed.

Just thought id post a bit of an update on here
