Front Tow Bar
Greetings all
Anyone have any experience or comments on using and or fitting Front mounted push tow bars in general and to a 1996 940 in particular? Regards, David Last edited by violetta; Feb 24th, 2006 at 11:28. |

You probably will have to copy the installation parameters of the standard rear towbar, in that the bar connects to the chassis rail forward of the bumper gas filled shock mounts. The front mounted one would have to be fitted just aft of the front bumper gas shock mounts. You would also have to fabricate spacers to fit in the chassis rails, like the ones in an ordinary car towbar kit ( ie Ford Escort Mk 3 one ) where the chassis does not have them fitted like the rear of a 940. You will then have to fabricate suitable steel tubing / angle ( of similar size to non Volvo type towbar ) to have the hitch at the correct height. You will probably have to adjust the lower bumper grill. All the welding will have to be to the correct specification. Your Insurance Company may need to be informed, as it would cause more damage to anything you ( hopefully won't) hit.

Thanks Ivor940.
I was really seeking advice from anyone who might of used or had a front tow bar fitted. I have found a company named Watling Towbars manufacturing them but looking for second opinion. Many regards, David |
