Cool problen with my K plate 940S starting

My car was running great untill 4 weeks ago when I went to start her up she would not fire up. the engine turns over but will not start I have changed the plugs and dissy cap and roter arm however this has not solved my problem. there is half a tank of fuel in the tank. What I have noticed is that the fuel gage is now working it was'nt when I bought her. could this be part of the problem.

Question

Could be a problem with the fuel pump, and have you checked the fuses for same?

best to go back to basics - to run an engine needs fuel, air, a spark, the spark to be at the right time.

1. check that fuel is getting through. crank the engine a few seconds then switch off. remove a spark plug and see if you can smell fuel. if not suspect fuel pump fuse, relay or pump itself.

2. check for spark. remove sparkplug and position it so that plug is grounded. watch plug and crank engine. no spark suggests coil, ht lead or distributor cap/rotor arm problem. ecu fault possible but rare.

try these and report back

Some years ago I had a similar problem with my K reg Wentworth. The culprit was a defective HT lead. It was allowing a spark to be produced but apparently the spark was too weak. The fact that a spark was being seen put us off the scent for some time.

Hope you soon manage to solve the problem
