Is it possible that the new computer is faulty?

Mike,
you could be right... on both my 940GL (B230E) and my 740GL (B200E) but had faulty computers.. The car sometimes wouldn't start.. and when accelerating, it felt like a 1985 Datsun Cherry... lol I would say, get your computer replaced or re-conditioned.. Simon

Yes - if badly clogged it will reduce pressure and reduce flow so limiting performance.
