Default Xc60 speed advisories - driver beware

Having used my 2014 D5 for nearly two months now, and getting to know the systems, I had noted that the driver road speed limit advisories that were being produced on the display often didn't match with speed portals on the road.

In one case, just east of my home, the road speed limit rises to 40mph and then we can enter a motorway where the limit is 70mph. Each time I drove up the motorway entry slip road the speed limit advisory remained at 40mph and did so even when I turned off several miles away.

On a journey into West London this week, there were several times when the dashboard road speed advisory was showing 50mph when the actual speed limit was 30mph.

Over the past couple of days I have become aware that these speed limit advisories are NOT being generated by the SatNav (it was switched off) but the camera/sensors on the front of the car. This has been confirmed to me by the Senior Technician at my dealer yesterday.

Therefore, XC60 drivers should be acutely aware that the presence of a road speed limit advisory can be compromised by the car not reading road speed limit signs, them being smaller than a particular size, being obstructed or just dirty.

Take care out there!

Yes, speed limit information was removed from the Nav system at the last release. There is a request with Volvo product to have them reinstated, but no date/confirmation at this time. The road sign information is, I believe, part of the Driver Support Pack?

Not in the league where it will cost you a fine, but I have found that the satnav directions that appear in the DIM sometimes don't tie up with the Satnav which might cause you an issue if you are relying on them and the satnav screen is on screensaver (i.e. blank).

Recently 2 examples - last week at a43/m1 junction where it told me to turn right, satnav correctly was showing that I needed to go left, and last night where at the a417/m4 junction the DIM said to go straight ahead when in reality you turn left onto m4. There have been others, these are the 2 that come to mind.

Does anyone know how to contact here.com and to discuss/correct the issues? Volvo state that they don't have an address (at least not a consumer address) and there is no email address on the website

All this tools are aids. You can never rely 100% on them.

During my testdrive (XC60 D4 FWD, it seems difficult to get one, not so here in Belgium) the road sign recognition worked perfectly. Even the dynamic signs hanging over the road (approximately 3,5 meters), and not only the speed limits, but also overtaking signs are shown on the screen.

Given the number of fines and point that people get on their licences over here I think that everyone knows that they are only aids
