Default Hello and Help

Hello one and all, well I've done it, I've bought a 460 GLT Turbo with a rear 'knock'. it needs a new boot, bumper and a little work to the shut panel, as it was reversed into a post, therefore making it into my price range, sub £200 with tax and a long MOT.

1996 GLT Turbo in metalic blue with half leather. Working Info Centre, bar the oil temp sender, always says COOL

Now the questions: (sorry for this, I know the 200 series very well, but the 400's are new to me)

1) How do I use the diagnostic unit in the engine, as I the haynes manual doesn't cover it, I know what it does as I had one in the 700 I had, but I don't know how this one works

2) Where can I go for handling improvements, like poly bushes and suspension components.

3) I'm interested in lightly freeing off the engine, ie the free flow filter, exhaust and maybe a dump valve.

4) I'd like to put on a different set of alloys, the 5 spoke with the spokes that are split in two with one thick arm and a thin 'shadow' that is next to it, that may be badly described but I tried

5) Are there any common faults to look out for on this model?

6) Is there any auxillary gauges you can get, I have the boost gauge in the centre console (which isn't back light - should it be?)

7) What's the average engine temp reading on the info centre?

Thanks everyone, and I hope I can everntually contribute to the answers one day

Hope you can bring her to the next pub meet thingy as I wouldn't mind a ride in here. I'll bring the 700R to return the favour.

Hello Ryan, well she isn't as fast as I thought she would be but that's the plan, I need to fix the body work and then performance, I'm not allowed to vinyl this one on strict orders from the missus, she loves TULIP but won't let me do it to this one as she wants to drive it and is too shy to do so with the Wagon, Oh and the 460 is Called FRY, I'll tell you why one day

I know the normal 400's have a aux water pump. It is mounted on the right hand side of the engine bay (from the front).

On the beefing it up there is not much available.
As far a I know there are no poly bushes available - something I hope to change.
We do uprated springs for them.
The air filter should be no troble to do something with - we have loads in stock.
The biggest power gain would be from a free flow exhaust - we are only doing these fitted for the 400.
From there you are going to need improvments in stopping power and for more go you'll need a worked ecu.

Hello!

I've just acquired a 460 turbo myself and I can answer two questions. Firstly, the secondary water pump should run for 20-30 seconds after turning the engine off. Secondly, the boost guage should be backlit. Prise it out of the centre console and you should see the connection for the light.

Hth.
