well i hope he can it would be fantastic news for the volvo community please keep us all informed with the outcome i would love to get another key but i wont pay £300 to any one for a key it just a rip off so many older cars have been scrapped or left to rot because the price of a key is a third of the value of a vehicle..

Also interested in the outcome of this. I too need another key but don't fancy the main stealer price tag. Let us know how it goes, I see we're all fairly local to one another too so we may be able to use the same auto locksmith if the outcome is good.

Cheers.

A lot of locksmiths say they can do it but when you go to collect they apologise and say they can't. Some say they need the car at their place to do it but as posts here show it seems to be a Volvo dealer job only.
Lots of brownie points if you can really find an alternative.

Info from two modules in the car, the fixed code numbers given to the individual key and info from the volvo factory database are needed to code a key to the car it was the best in the business back then, I'm not sure if the rest have caught up yet.

I know this is an old post but I went to my local volvo dealership today to collect some bits, whilst I was there I asked how much a replacement key would be just out of curiosity, a full programmed 5 button key fob was £457!! A valet / service type key only was £250.

Almost had a heart attack 😂
