Engine Service Required - Result!!
Recently my V70 D5 went into limp-mode with 'engine service required'. It happened when the engine was cold and under significant load i.e. accelerating onto motorway/dual carriageway.
Took it to a local Volvo indi for a code read. It pointed to a boost pressure fault. I then booked it into Stratstone Burton for a 120k service and for them to look at it in a bit more detail. They hooked it up and agreed the boost pressure problem and said it could be a pressure sensor but updated the ECM software to see if it solved it. I picked the car up Friday afternoon and straight away limp mode again. Took it straight back. This time same code plus another one. They did a vacuum check of the system and it turns out one of the lower engine mounts, which work on a vacuum to slightly lift the engine, is leaking. They blanked it off temporarily as I was on a jolly to Southampton over the weekend and no more problems!! Booked in this week to have it replaced. Cost of replacment pads for engine mount is £98 + fitting (1+1/2 hours) and vat. Thought this may help others before they start throwing new sensors etc at it.

Thanks for this info............our V70 has had the same problem with loss off power,
no warning messages though, since April. We've had a gear box job, valve sensors, numerous other things, and kept coming back to haunt us. It actually lasted for two months this time before it happened again. Only just found out through a dealer that this was and is the problem.............hope so !! I wish I new about this site before we bought this car. All through our troubles the site was down, due to unfortunate problems I understand. Glad it's back, great site. Cheers V40 Simon

Hi DrumToot,
How is your car now? The mounting pads turned out to be only half the problem for me. I ended up having a new turbo but touch wood it's been fine since. With all these systems interconnected in some way, a problem with one will undoubtedly lead to a problem with another, as was the case here. I may have spent some money to put it right but I wouldn't swap it. It's a great, comfortable cruiser with bags of poke when you need it.

Hi V40 Simon,
We had the front engine mount replaced, because it had a cracked nipple...! That's what they said would fix the problem. Nope.........Back to normal, loss of power, foot down stays at the same speed. The dealer where we got the car from is now saying that it is out of warranty because it's not related to any of the work that has been done so far. The Volvo dealer who we were referred to, to have the work done has said if it happens again then take it back to them. We also found out that the car had already had a new gear box put in by Volvo under warranty, something that the dealer says they new nothing about, considering the dealer sent it to a auto specialist, (£1400) to fix the problem. The plot thickens, Sorry for the ramble. I seem to be going around in circles, I like the car, but at the moment wish I never purchased it. Thanks for the reply.
