Please help new Volvo owner.
Hi guys, i am purchasing the new Xc60 2016 model and placing my order on the 16th of this month(April). I am contemplating on getting D4 R design in red with the new 2016 r design wheels. I am thinking of getting the Manual over the auto (190bhp) so i can get the polestar upgrade (£800 approx). If i buy the Auto which is £2,000 more approx i cannot afford to get the polestar upgrade and tints which are £350. Should i buy the manual D4 R design Lux Nav AWD and get the polestar upgrade with the tints and also winter pack. Or buy the automatic D4 and get no additionals as the £2,000 extra for the auto will use up all my budget. Please if anyone can tell me if the polestar on the D4 manual (190bhp) be worth it? Thank you in advance. Oh also i have never driven an auto and kinda like manuals as all my previous cars been manual and i like the control of power the manuals give but idk how good the autos are.

Personally if youve always had manuals in the past i would say go with the manual and get all the extras you want, is the gearbox gonna make that much difference where as if you get the auto, in a couple of months time when you look at the car on your drive with out all the options that you wanted you may regret it.
I had the same thoughts when buying mine 3months ago but couldnt justify the extra money for the auto, so i went with the New D4 fwd r design in red with the options i wanted. Plenty time for me to get an auto in the future quite happy changing gear myslef for now. |

The polestar upgrade doesn't add much bhp you gain more with adding this to the auto as it transforms the auto box

Have you test driven a auto? Like you I had driven manuals for a long time, and do like a good manual gear change and the satisfaction you get. Before ordering my car I test drove both, and the auto won me over, also drove the fwd and awd and decided to go for the 190 fwd with 8 speed auto. Depending on your decision you could literally have your cake and eat it.

I have test drove the Auto and it was weird at first having driven manuals untill now. Are the Autos good though like smooth changing? Was hard to tell in my test drive as the area was flat no hills etc.. some reviews online did mention it was not the smoothest gearbox on the auto. I do want the polester but if it makes a diffrence on the manual like extra 10-15 bhp and extra torque. I am so confused i do think buying auto will be great as i will drive it Monday to Friday to work and can drive lazily with the auto, but then i lose out on the extras. Is the D4 190bhp AWD manual quick enough?

Depends what you mean by quick enough, in everyday driving it probably is, but the D4 awd is the slowest of the bunch. When I bought my car once I had decided on the trim level (R Design Lux Nav) it then came down to awd v fwd and auto v manual. Awd = 'old engine' and 6 speed geartronic/ 6 speed manual or fwd = 'new VEA engine and 8 speed geartronic/ 6 speed manual. I chose the fwd 8 speed geartronic, lovely and smooth and well matched to the D4 engine. If you Polestar this combo it remaps the engine and geartronic so arguably you get more for your money. Do you really need awd. Difficult decisions to make 😀 Why not ask for a extended test drive ie borrow one for the day.

D4 FWD manual is very fast. One forum member bought a D4 AWD geartronic (without a test drive) and complained about lack of performance.
Incidentally, you will be ordering an MY17 model. These went live on 6th April. Personally - after 10 months of ownership - I would not change a single decision (except the remote control !). AWD might have been nice but the extra cost up front, approx. 10mpg penalty, and extra VED was a bridge too far. I spent my money on nearly all the options in the book. Love it, especially at £30 pa VED.
