Hi Jeff - my gauges rarely work well either. I bank on 220 miles on a tank and if the temperature gauge gets to the quarter mark, it's about to boil!!

It's the voltage stabiliser on the back of the pcb that works the gauges, you can not get them now so had to hard wire a voltage regulator in and that sorted it out

The condition of your car seems to be the polar opposite of mine - mine's safe and strong but seriously down at heel. Keeps me mobile though!! and I don't mind hedging it on the lanes or leaving it parked anywhere sketchy

Volvo 144 Back on road.
Hello Jeff. I know Brian Gue quite well. He did some servicing and body work on FAY many years ago. I was told the other week that FAY is now in the Aberdeen area .

Yer had a chat with Dave at the national and he said it had gone to Scotland.
My 144 was sold new by Holden Motors in Norwich on the 9/10/1972 to a Mr J S Dent, Market Place Dereham Norfolk. Not sure about second but was also Norfolk. |

Paintwork
Hiya Jeff, Your winter project looks to be going well and presume when we get some warmer times it go will go even better. One point I have noticed on your last pictures is the area around the battery tray mount on the inner wing. Is the blue tape ? or rust-proofer ? covering the level pressing and spot welds paint free for re-attachment of the battery tray after its paintwork. Main reason to draw your attention to this is I did the same sort of job but failed to leave sufficient metal to metal contact between the two for a good earth. Result was a none starter at the National Rally first time we went to Thoresby Hall ,fellow members soon rallied round with tools and advice and two minutes work with a screwdriver and emery got us going. Like my boss was always saying for-warned is for-armed. All the best, Bryan

Cheers, will keep in mind. Tray bolts to front panel and made sure all was cleaned up.
Might fit an extra earth strap though. Hope you're keeping well and look forward to see and chat soon |
