480 Celebration - Special ID Plate Replacement?
Hi I have been thinking about purchasing a 480 celebration. Looks like a previous owner has decided to keep the 'Celebration' ID plate as a souvineer as the plate is missing from the car. Is it possible to get a replacement ID plate from anywhere?

Personally I'd be extremely reluctant to buy unless it checks out well otherwise and there isn't a premium on the price.
I should imagine that anyone with an engraving machine who does trophies / presentation plaques ( jeweller? ) should be able to do it from plan. You would likely need an accurate picture to scale. Then there's the matter of metal type / thickness, depth of engraving ... depending on how 'right' you want to do it. Maybe someone on here / the 480 europe club who owns one can be of more help. It seems very strange to me that anyone would remove this in the first place: surely that's one of the main attractions? Best of luck, Tony

Celebration or not?
Given the shenanigans that seem to blight 480 Celebration sales you need to be absolutely certain that the 480 Celebration you are buying is definitely that. Check the interior trim, the colour combination, the wheels and the position of the 480 badge on the tailgate.
Although not hugely more valuable than the ES model, a good Celebration commands a bit of a premium. Have a look at the 480 club website, look at lots of pictures, check out the original sales brochure pictures (available on the VOC website), and make sure the car you're looking at matches up. If not, ask yourself why, and be prepared to walk away. I'm not suggesting that the one you're looking at is dodgy, but the absence of the badge would make me a bit suspicious. Cheers Jack |
