Default N/S Headlight wiper stuck

Hi everyone,

My C70's N/S headlight wiper has got stuck in a rather stupid position and is a bit embarrassing to drive (see below).

What are we looking at here? Seized motor which needs replacing or has it popped out of some kind of socket? I have tried the wipers several times and the other side moves fine, this seems stuck, can't move it by hand either.

Thanks.

Most likely the motor stuck, although mine righted itself after a while, so don't be tempted to remove the arm and move the wiper blade downwards. Your lucky its the nearside, as its easier to replace the motor. It is on the V70 and 850 anyway!

Try disconnecting the wires, clean them and reconnect. It might work!

Good shout I'll give this ago, if no luck I'll try to find a replacement.

The motor may have packed up, usually plenty on the bay and fairly easy to replace

Remember that the wiring from the motor on one side is longer than the other, so if the nearside is the long wire, don't buy the shorter one from the other side, as I think the motors are the same both sides, but not 100% sure!

I will try to determine which is longer then, worst case scenario I could always extend the wires with some spade connectors and new wire I guess..

Just tried the contact cleaner, turned on the wipers and it moved a tiny bit and is now stuck again (at least it's not stuck directly up anymore). Looks like I'll need a new motor.. These aren't cheap though even used..

You can split the motor housing and repair the unit, it's usually the contacts not making properly, See this guide from the articles section https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=51146

I've gone to take out the wiper motor just now and getting the headlight out and the bolts for the wiper motor are easy enough but now I phyiscally can't get it out because the radiator is blocking it.

The Haynes manual says to fully remove the left radiator mounting bolt and loosen the right bolt, can't even see where they are to be honest and I'm still not sure it will give me enough clearance to get the motor out.
