Default Timing belt

I'm hoping to get myself an S70 2.4T this w/e, the timing belt is due for change, I've read on here, that the waterpump probably not need to be changed, as they are so well made that they'll do 200,000 +
The car I'm hoping to get has only 81,000 miles, so should I have the waterpump changed as a matter of course ? also, will the aux belts need changing too ?
Now, I've made a few enquiries on getting timing belt done, firstly at my regular garage, and at a Volvo specialist in Edinburgh (not sure if they actually are, as they appear to be specialist in many marques !) and I'm being told by them that they will only "check" the waterpump, but to do the timing belt which will include the idler tensioner timing belt and Aux belt will be £315 inc VAT - job will take 2 - 3 hours, my regular garage says it'l be £272.50 + VAT = £327 for timing and waterpump, I know that they charge £56 p/h - so, is that a reasonable price for the job ?
I've read on here that doing the timing belt on these is a pretty quick job - perhaps an hour or so !
So, are these garages taking the mick with their prices, I think its rather high, apart from VW Passat diesels which is a pain to do, in my experience, I this seems a lot and a long time form the job !

Timing belt change can be fiddly but easy to do, about an hours work.
Even easier lift with air tools etc...
Waterpumps usualy last ages so if there's no leaks or play in the spindle I would leave it...but everyone has their own opinion...

Both those prices are clearly from Clowns.Grease monkeys charging more than my Lawyer does per hour😂
If your even remotely handy with the spanner it's doable at home or find someone who works for sensible hourly rate.

I'm certainly no novice but working in my garage with large full length ramps but no lift.
I think they are talking rubbish if they think a home mechanic change of the timing belt is a one hour job. You can spend an hour removing wing inner cover, under engine covers timing belt covers (yes and the annoying cable mounts on the back edge of the top cover), then starter motor, fitting the locking devices (oh yes, Sealy do a very reasonably priced good quality locking set for the D4204T engine at about £23 from Amazon, Laser want about £90 or so)

Furthermore, aux belt, setting aux belt tensioner back and locking it blah, blah, blah.
Then, changing the belt, well they can be a shade tight to get on.
Did I mention the crankshaft pulley bolt?

Cheers guys.

Assuming the pump is original leave well alone - unless of course the mechanic finds play or rough when spinning it - very unlikely at that mileage. Whatever you do fit a genuine pump if needed - many good genuine pumps have been replaced with inferior pattern ones only to fail some way down the line. The timing belt kit will come with the belt, idler and adjuster - the pump is missing for a reason.

The auxilary belt needs changing at the same time and the belt tensioner. The tensioner is often overlooked, but it is the tensioner that generally fails, not the belt.

@MorganMan:

OP's car is petrol, so no need to remove starter, no locking tools required, no need to remove under-engine covers or crankshaft pulley bolt.

I still think an hour is optimistic though, two is easily doable though, I took no more than that to do mine and that included the coolant pump.

Certainly not something I'd even try ! never done a timing belt before, so, hence my question

Might be a trek for you in Mussleburgh but it might be worth getting a price from Volvomax in Glasgow. Now the travel ban is lifted you could have a day out in Glasgow with the wife as well

I've had a quote from Voltech very pricey I have to say - £354 inc VAT to do timing belt and aux belt - does not include water pump, they will only check it, and it is £190.80 to change ATF !!!"
I#ll look up Volvomax

It really is one of the easiest timing belts to change. there are a few videos online that walk you through the procedure.
