There's often low light overcast driving conditions here in Scotland...

In places with a long sunrise/sunset, DRLs are a sensible thing.

So in the event of someone pulling out from a junction into your path causing a collision, the police might ask due to you owning a Volvo, "did you have your drl's switched on".............imo to switch off your drl's shows a blatant disregard for your own and other road users safety, it has been proven over many years and in many countries that drl's reduce accidents, why do you think motorcyclists have to have their headlamps switched on at all times, it is to make them more visible to other road users, by the same principle that is why having drl's displayed will become law in 2011.
to my knowlege it is not compulsary for motorcyclists to have their headlights on in the daytime just that most of them choose to.please correct me if i'm mistaken!

I can see the benefits of DRL's in terms of safety yes. But why must everything be geared for safety?

Should all pedestrians have day time running lights?

If they're walking on the road at night, pedestrians should carry lights. If they're running down the road in the daytime at 30mph, they should carry DRLs.

What I don't understand is why I have two lamp positions that do exactly the same thing. I'm an adult -- I drive with dipped beam at all times, because it's safer, and it's a Volvo so I'm supposed to... but occasionally, I just want to turn them all off for whatever reason.

Anyone know if it can be done at home with Vida and dice?

no you can not do it at home , its a main dealer only as it requires a software download to the car.
SOME dealers will bull*hit you with refusing to do it , the software isnt avaliable, etc,, but it is and IF your car is prior to 2011 its legal to do so

it Will save you burning out the reflectors in the dip beam projectors.

once done, dont post up as all the self-righteous clowns will start again

This is still on my to-do list (from the Birmingham main dealer).

Don't forget to inform your insurance , as Day running lights are a safety feature which helps keep your premium reasonable ...

Thats a bit far-fetched though, especially for pre-2011 car, dont you think? Would you need to inform insurance that you switch to POS1 (parking) during day aswell?
its just a disable of feature that is not a legal requirement, I would think.
(im all hands on for DRLs, I drive on lights 24/7 but I like to be able to decide whether I want to)...

My plan is to leave the sidelights on as DRLs, I just don't want dipped beam on at all times. In fairness though the sidelights on these facelift C30s are pretty crap...
