Without prejudice

Hi Greg,

Good news about your father breathing on his own a brilliant step in the right direction and truely I wish him a speedy recovery

You are correct to point out that I would consider Russ a good friend and I would love to see this situation resolved as quickly and efficently as possible in the interests of both parties. However I am sure you understand when I say that I don't want to act as a go between this really is an issue that Russ and yourself need to resolve together. If, as you claim, Russ has said he no longer wishes to discuss the matter on the phone, which tbh I can understand given your previous claims of recorded phone calls, then perhaps it would be better to continue your communications via email as you have previously done. You have stated in your email to Russ that you will give him until the 12th October to reply perhaps for you in this situation waiting until then is the best option currently available. Indeed it will give you both a chance to think and, if you don't mind me saying, perhaps give you personally a chance to allow this currently stressful and emotional period time to cool. Raised voices and stamping feet from either party never solves a situation it just closes doors in my experience, not of course saying you have, it's just my 2p's worth based only on what I have read in your above posts. If after the 12th you feel it necessary to pursue other avenues then so be it. In any case I hope the situation can be resolved amicably,

Regards,

Andy

Greg i am not going to comment on the whys and where fores but russ has helped me a couple of times and always found him to be on the ball and very helpful...but on the subject of recording phone calls...that in itself is illegal unless both parties agree BEFORE the call takes place...i hope you get this resolved asap
cheers

Taking my moderator hat firmly off for a moment...

Regarding the engine...I'm not sure I agree with Russ that an engine won't have lunched a bearing (or several) unless the oil pressure light has come up. The light is usually triggered at 0.5 Bar, whereas normal operating pressure should be at least 3 Bar. However, if you were thrashing the hell out of the engine while the pressure is only at 0.6 Bar...the light isn't on, but do you really think 0.1Bar will make all the difference? No. So it's not quite that clear-cut...

If it has spun a bearing...unless you've got very, very lucky, it may not be economical to repair the engine when a good used T5 engine can be had for £250 or so. Spun bearings usually mean damage to the surfaces they're in contact with. My advice? Get the sump off, and have a look. Pull the bearing caps off (mains and big ends) and see what is underneath. Get your experienced mechanic friend to help, if needs be. If it were my engine, and there was a spun bearing...unless the wear surfaces are still perfect (unlikely), I'd start looking for a replacement engine. If you want pictures of what I'm talking about, I have some from a recent tear-down of an engine with a spun bearing.

Certainly, the single most common cause of a spun bearing would be oil starvation, and on that basis it's one hell of a coincidence...but it can "just happen"...so proving fault is likely to be difficult. I would suggest that good-will is more likely to get you a result here than the law...but it may be a bit late to go chasing good-will!

What I don't understand is why you upped the ante with regard to how vigourous your complaint was. Calmly explaining why you were unhappy was getting results...but it went wrong big-time when you started talking about recording phone calls, etc. Reading this back, it strikes me that you could have still resolved this had you not got so 'excitable'...and posting it on the various forums may well have totally blown your chances of getting this settled amecably. Further screw-ups may have been emerging, but Russ was still making the right noises...and everyone makes mistakes, so it's the response, not the mistakes that matters, really. It seems you shot yourself in the foot there a bit...

Anyway...it's done now. I wish you the very best of luck with sorting it out. I have a T5 engine sat here if yours is dead and you're desperate. It's got a lot ot miles on it, but it doesn't owe me much.

cheers

James

I think you have done the right thing by posting on here for others to make there own minds up.
If it was me i would give Russ one last chance to get back to you then submit the stuff to trading standards and let them deal with it.

Given the amount of time this has dragged on for and the independent technician's report and all I've read plus the amount of work Greg has been putting their way I feel most consumers would be likely to lose patience, it would take a saint not to especially combined with the serious health issues of a family member. I wouldn't settle for a replacement high mileage engine given the evident service history of this car and I'd be in the Small Claims Court expecting my car to be put right and the engine restored to the condition it was before it entered their garage and my expenses refunded minus their expenses for a failed trip to pick the motor up

Hi

Although I've voiced my thoughts on another forum I feel the best course of action would have been to not post anything online until resolution in any form with RT.

All the best.

William.

Hi Rnash

I only posted after Russ said he would not discuss the matter with me any more.

Today I sent RT Mechanics an email asking who their legal customer services representative is? so i can make contact with them.

Trading has now closed for the week and RT Mechanics have now again refused to contact me again for the second time.

They have My home phone number, Mobile & Email but still I have heard Nothing?

I chose to use email as it shows a record that i have tried to contact them if needed.

So now It looks like i will have to contact trading standards and see what the next corse of action is?

Cheers Greg

Sorry to read you've had problems with your car (I've only had a quick scan read though), I've had problems with a garage I used to be happy with so I can relate in how frustrating it can be.

By the way you might want to edit out your email address out of your original post otherwise spam email engines might add your email to their databases (if they haven't already)!
