Default Remote central locking v40?

Hi all am completely new to Volvo ownership having just bought a realy nice year 2000 V40 1.6 manual with 104000 miles on it,I only got 1 key with it and was wondering if there should be a remote control fob for central locking or is it just key operated from drivers door and does not have key fob function in this year and model. It is what i would call a base model with cloth seats,I think its V40 I.Thanks in advance Alan

My phase 1 1999 car didn't have a fob, I suspect that it should have done.but it was just missing, there are two ways to get one, either get one through Volvo (used fobs can't be recoded so you have to buy new, which costs £££) or, you can get a selection of matched parts from the same car, I think it's all the locks, the keys, keyfob, lock alarm module and the ECU, at least I think that's right, I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be along to confirm

All you actually need is the lock alarm module located under the stereo and a fob, from the same donor car. It would be plug and play, with no need for programming as the fob and the lock alarm module were already paired on the previous car.
