1800ES rear seatbelts
Hi there, what a great forum, hoping you lot can help me out. I’m looking to fit rear seatbelts in my 1800es. Would prefer to have three point inertia reel ones. On the following site they say that these ones will fit (https://classic-volvo.com/rolgordel-...alle-type.html)
Has anyone on here tried to fit three point belts in the back of an 1800es and if so what did you use as the anchor points for the top bracket? The wheel arch? And did it work? Any help much appreciated as would rather the little fellas were strapped in! |

I've not used that product but if their picture shows all you get in the kit and there are no existing reinforcements in the chassis then I would say that looks to me like an incomplete kit or a kit that will need a fair amount of additional work to make it safe.
On my PV the rear lap belts have reinforcing brackets on the underside of the floor pan at each mounting point.

Good comments, I actually got a response from the seller saying that in fact that product was NOT suitable for a 1800es so back to square one.
Fixings at lap level are no problem as the drive shaft tunnel and rear wheel arch are close by and that is what was used on the original US cars for the lap belts. Just got no idea whether it’s possible to fit a three point belt in any configuration. Anyone who has tried or seen one I’d appreciate any feedback. |

Ten years later I transferred them to a second ES, a 1973 model which I still have to this day and the same belts now get used for my grandchildren! Rear retractable belts were an accessory option on the ES, you may be able to find some second hand from a scrap car, otherwise just fit a pair of static belts like I did. |

Thanks Cassell, unfortunately that was what I was expecting. I'll look into lapbelts though I had read that if you retro-fit seatbelts that they must come up to present standards (which would be 3pt).
If true that then leaves the absurd situation that the only option is to leave it with nothing at all. |
