Hey.

I have lately been thinking about to get my next volvo. So im thinking about xc70, probably 2000-2003 with petrol fuel engine. What should i know about these models, and maybe something from your experience. Thanks

I've got a 2012 model, but the principle will still apply. I love it, it's a decent size, roomy, super comfortable and has bags of room for shopping and anything else you want to transport! The engines have plenty of grunt, with he D5 providing the most punch, even if a little thirsty. When I have 3 passengers, I don't even notice any difference! It pulls well.

Instruments, switches and buttons are easy to find and fairly logical to use.

The Premium Sound is fantastic. It's plenty loud enough and no distortion.

Visibility is mixed. There's a blind spot alongside the car on the drivers side, created by the door pillar. I make sure I am thorough in my checks.

Insurance and tyres are reasonable. I get 35-40 typically from the D5 too, high is pretty good.

Good luck in your research! Hope you get the info you need to make the right decision for you!

You've posted in the 2007 onwards section, so you may be better off in the section that covers the vintage you're looking into: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=19

I've had a 2004 and 2006 XC70, both 163 diesels and they are good engines which can go on for several hundred thousand miles. I was averaging 45 - 50 MPG which isn't back for an auto weighing 1800kg.

Now I'm in a 2008 3.2 straight 6 petrol XC70. It probably only does 25 to the gallon, but it's got a Prins LPG conversion and I'm paying typically under 50p/litre so it brings running costs back inline with the diesel version, yet it's much more refined and doesn't have the negative image problem which diesel vehicles are beginning to suffer from.
