Default Swirl flaps

Still trying to learn about this (new to me) engine.

Does the 5 cylinder 2.0L D3 have this feature, and if so, how can one verify its correct functionality?

That’ll be a euro 5 engine. They don’t have swirl flaps.

Maybe someone else could confirm for certain.

Thanks Kev. It would be good if someone could confirm this, or give me some clue how to look for it.

Start the engine, lift the bonnet & take the engine cover off. Underneath the cover on the left side as you look at it (you may have to bend a bit), you’ll see a little plastic arm* Get someone to turn the engine off & you keep looking in this area. As the engine turns off, you should see that little plastic arm moving & it usually moves a few times due to calibration.

*If your car has swirl flaps.

You could also give your reg to a Volvo dealer & ask them if you’re vehicle has them.

Watch this video. Its from a euro 4 engine, but it’ll give you an idea of where you need to look.

Again, I don’t think the euro 5’s have swirl flaps. You may not see the plastic arm for this reason.

+ YouTube Video

Just checked. I can confirm there is no such thing. Great! One less thing to go wrong. Thank you.
