Auto question?
1991/2 240 GL Auto. Could it be 3 or 4, o/d. Is the 4 or o/d an option?

All of our 240s were 3 - speeders, 'Moomoo', but we didn't have one as late as that. 3+ Lockup (O/D) and 4 speed were options on 7 - series cars, identifiable by the button on the LHS of the shifter and the illuminated up-arrow on the dash.
They could well have been available on later 2 -series cars, or it's possible that someone may have 'updated' your car if it is new to you and you do not know it's history. Regards, John.

I assumed a 4 speed would be slightly more economical than a three. I would prefer a manual but don't want to rule out an automatic if a 4 speed auto isn't too thirsty! Again, much obliged! |

I think the 2 litre would have had a B19a motor - I’m not sure the 240 would have been available with that motor and an auto box by the 90 MY you were interested in.
I’ll do some research - I think the 240 only came in 2.1 and 2.3 motors in the era you are interested in. Alan PS. Research done. This is a really good reference (VOC!): https://www.volvoclub.org.uk/prof_200.shtml It looks like I was right above and the B200 motor wasn’t fitted to the 240 (probably the 340 - I know nothing about Dutch motor cars). In that case the AW70 or AW71 auto box would have been fitted to both the 2.1 and 2.3 litre motors from 1984. Starter for 10 answered?

2.1 and 2.3 up to about 84 I believe, then 2.0 b200 and 2.3 b230 after that. As for auto 3 speed on early cars again to about 85 then 3 speed plus overdrive on later autos I believe. |
