Dash Cam Installation
Fitting a dashcam to my 2013 V70 D3 soon and would like to know if it's possible to connect to the central box on the windscreen (behind the mirror). I have a 12v to 5v supply adaptor. Thanks

Are you asking if you can fix the camera mount to the central box, or the electrics within it?

I think if you open your drivers door and remove the cap of the end of instrument panel, you can pick up an unused 12v. Run wires up the window pillar.

YOu need a switched 12v unless you plan to film 24/7 and aint worried about a flat battery !
I had one in my old D5 and I am sure there is switched power in the rear mirror module ??????? |

Be Careful running the wires up the A pillar and across to the centre of the windscreen. The curtain airbag runs in the A pillar up and over the door, putting a wire across this will render the airbag useless.
I ran a wire up the A pillar till it meets the dash, then forward along the dash to the windscreen and up the A pillar that way, there is enough room to hide a wire in the leading edge of the A pillar to avoid crossing the Airbag. I suspect a lot of people haven't thought about this... |

This is what I am now using.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Having had plugged into interior 12v before and cables tucked under plastic. Now I have this. All cables hidden behind the dash and just works. Use second USB to power the quad lock wireless charger. Car has been in for a service. I just removed from the ODB socket before hand so they can attached the diagnostic tool, when I came back they had plugged it back in for me.

I fitted my own dash cam. Fuse box in the passenger foot well. Then ran the cable up the left handside hidden underneath the upholstery, to then come out at the ceiling behind the rear view mirror.

Go to the V90 section and have a look around there. Several threads there on the subject. Having had both a P3 V70 and a couple of V90's there's not much difference when it comes to fitting a dashcam. With care concerns around clashing with the airbag is a non event.
