V50 electrics gone crazy
Hi, i am new here and i want you to tell me what might cause that malfunction.
Volvo V50 04' with 195k km. The car was running fine until one day that while driving (on dry road/day) the wipers started going crazy while being in off position and after a while i got a brake failure message while the brakes where working perfectly fine. I manage to return back home but now it doesnt start up (i guess cause of the brake failure safty system). Also the wipers dont work any more. I hope it isnt the computer module that is going bad. Any ideas? |

Disconnect your battery and unplug your CEM. Give all the contacts on the CEM and wiring harness a good clean with a toothbrush and contact cleaner, then put it all back together.
I had the same issue and this fixed it, it's been fine for over a year now.

I took out the CEM, indeed there was a serious amount of corrosion (2 pins had huge holes) and i cleaned it very carefully with a brush and a contact cleaner. Then it was left to dry completely for about 2 hours , i placed it back , connect the battery and then after switching the key to on position everything worked fine for some seconds (wipers, no error messages). I tried to start the car and everything went black. No lights in the dashboard at all and the only electronic part that was working was the interior lights. Probably your assumptions were correct, but the CEM was in a really bad condition
(Pics of before and after, the corrosion is at the top right but you cant see it from the pics) Thank you for your answers. Last edited by Volvo v5; Oct 9th, 2020 at 20:12. |
