Wilmott Breden keys

I needed a replacement ignition key. I know the WB number FS 880 is correct but the replacement I bought on Ebay is so poor it doesn't work!
Amy recommendations?

Replacement Keys from Leighton Buzzard are recommended, I needed a second key for a 1960s WASO Volvo fuel cap, sent them the number and received perfect key within days.

The key is for the dash style ignition, No steering lock.
My car is 1964 Volvo 1800S.
All the locks are original type, I believe, although I think doors or ignition must have been subbed at some stage as ignition and door locks have different keys.

Just fit a new ignition barrel two keys supplied and are stronger type , or ask brookhouse they have them in stock I belive

You have asked for an answer. So I will answer by giving an explanation as to what is my reality.
First to say I have two sets of keys for my car. The ignition keys and door keys are both replacements, no doubt arranged by one or more of the first five owners of my 1964 car.
The 'teeth' on the two ignition keys are quite worn through use, but work perfectly. As I tour a lot and had the experience of mislaying a set of keys (briefly) while in France, I decided to order another ignition key.
I bought on line a cheap key which did not work.
Then I ordered a replacement key from the Leighton Buzzard company, which was delivered within 48 hours. When I have attempted to use it, the key will rotate the lock to the first position, ie activating the electrics, but will not rotate to crank the engine.
I guess the internals of the ignition lock are worn such that the new key will not work for me despite being 100% correct.
I will have a key cut as a match to my worn working keys and see if that works...
Will reply again in a few days....

Since you are dealing with both worn lock cylinders and worn keys, your approach of having a blank cut to match a worn key probably has a higher chance of success. That is the approach I used, taking the worn key (and the car) to a local locksmith who cut a replacement using the worn key as a master, tested it in the car, go back and modify the cut key, test, repeat until it works.

Since you have lock cylinders and keys that are now approaching 60 years in age, perhaps it is time to consider new keys and cylinders. CVI and others have them for a reasonable price

With new keys and cylinders if you order a WB key with the matching number it should work. Or with the correct blank you can have a key cut using a fresh key as the master and you should be good for another 60 years.

My Amazon has been converted to a starter button. Key switches on the ignition. Like yours the key is reluctant to want to turn any further to engage the start mode. As the start button was fitted when I bought the car I'm guessing the the button was fitted to fix the problem. Perhaps surprisingly I've never checked if the armoured cable has been broken into to allow the red wire that goes to the bottom of the coil to be tapped for the start circuit. I could have the diode modification. The push start is convenient and does away with the broken key problem. Much cheaper than buying a new ignition lock. I'm sure Ron K will pop a link up to his site with everything you need to know about fitting one.
