Michelham Priory Day Out
I have posted a selection of pictures that I took at this event last Sunday, on a temporary web site I have just set up.
The day out was very well attended, and a large selection of cars were there. The venue was very picturesque, and subsequently, a lot of pics were taken. Shots also include those of the grounds and Moat Walk, pics taken from The Priory, and last but not least, my pride and joy. Click on the thread; http://www.freewebs.com/doormanpgd/michelhampriory.htm Regards David

I would have come to this event, but I was involved in cleaning, firing, and driving something just a little bigger for the day (Battle of Britain pacific, have you any idea how much paint there is to clean on one of these!!!??)
Glad the day went well, I must try to get to something other than the BKV this year!!

Michelham Priory Volvo Gathering
Been a bit busy of late, but on behalf of the Sussex Section of the VOC a big belated thank-you to all those who attended. Wonderful weather (so much better than the previous wash-out weekend...) and a relaxing venue made it so enjoyable
BUT where were all you London resident Volvo owners? Just one came - from Walthamstow; thanks a lot and I hope you thought it worthwhile. This year the BKV is over 200 miles north of here - three times my miserable weekly part-pension just on fuel, so I reluctantly won't be going. Therefore we spent a lot of effort these last few weeks in time and fuel in delivering invitation flyers to all obviously enthusiast-owned Volvo's between the Thames and the south coast, to remind you that this was to be the premier dedicated Volvo meet in the south-east. The Kent Section has only a handful of regulars, yet all but one attended - a much appreciated effort considering two had lunch appointments elsewhere and one didn't even have his Volvo on the road. Sussex has over 20 and again apart from those who previously stated they were on holiday, a very good turn-out. In some instances more than one car per family, and Lynne even loaned her immaculate 340 to the section Chairman as his 264 is presently off-road. I know the Portsmouth "section" were mostly busy elsewhere, but Ray again trailered his PV444 in, just for us to drool over - he didn't have to but thought lots of people would like it; all this shows just how much effort and co-ordination went into this event. Apart from some regular rally attendees, very few others though, and despite pledges of support at the Volvo AGM, not a single director came. Therefore there were gaps in models present: just the one 740 from London: just Len's P1800 as usual: only my 164 (where were you, Tony after you promised...): no 360 (where were you, Tim after that confirmation...) and only 5 Amazons (where were all you south-Londoners - I know lots of you, and you missed a rare outing of Simons beauty and the 2006 BKV winning 122S ?): so the list can continue. However, I realise this is why the BKV is always held oop narth - a much more enthusiastic bunch generally: you could almost call this lament "The apathy of the South". Until this gathering I might have complained about the BKV being so far up-country, but now I go along with it entirely. As I said at the beginning, I only wish I could afford to be there, but sadly no, so you will have to get another to assist with judging the 164s this year. I really hope it is a good time there - I shall be moody all weekend! Paul Sussex Section |

Hey Doorman
So that beast was yours eh.
We stood still as you drove it past us on your way in so we could listen to it! The kids tried to get me to put my 850 T5 on the grass but I left it in the carpark for fear of polluting via oil drops ;-) Quote:

Were you the family in the white 850 in the outer car park then, and if so, did you come into the arena?

That was us!
Yes we came in and had a mooch about, also around the Priory. As I'm not a VOC member I wasn't sure if I could have parked on the grass anyway. We had some lunch then I was dragged off to watch the third Pirates movie at Eastbourne so didn't have all day. Rob. |

Hi Rob
Sorry I did not meet up with you, perhaps next time, suggest you join up anyway, there are lots of ways to save money once you are a paid up member, I think it's about £24. I save perhaps £50+ year on servicing and parts etc. Contact John Smith, Membership Secretary @ membership@volvoclub.org.uk Oh, and thanks for your comments on my car. Regards David
