Default Replacement exhaust for D5 163

Guys

Would appreciate a steer from anyone who has replaced the exhaust on an elderly 163 D5.

The common centre flange has rusted out, but rather than just fix that, wanted a cat back replacement as I am sure the back box is not far behind.

Given that the car has no DPF and also no centre moderator box, there seem to be very few replacements listed for this MY.

Two questions:

What is a common replacement that fits well and does not hit the towbar?

Can the later exhaust with the centre moderator be fitted to the earlier car that did not have one? Dont expect any power reduction but reduction of cabin noise is always nice!

Many thanks

David

Hi, I purchased a cat back system for my03 three years ago. That is the middle box and rear box. I sent details to a member on this forum, can't remember the thread name. Will try and find a link and add.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/273993502699

The unit costs me (at that time) less than £100 and came with all mounts and fittings. It took just three days delivery. ... From Poland!

No probs at all since...

My indie at that time charged me £40 to fit and told me it was simple.

Hope this helps and let us know how you get on.

That's the very one that I was going to link to John.

A few on here have fitted them and they have to be good value for money.

As good as the original? . Of course not but why spend a fortune on an old car.

That would be my choice.

How about this, https://www.skandix.de/en/spare-part...encer/1036116/
I had mine from FRF Swansea, original part.
You could join the straight pipe with one these, and do away with the flange, but check the pipe diameter first, you might need 2 of these clamps https://www.skandix.de/en/spare-part...mm/1066780/and a small length of pipe to account for the flange.
May help?

Thanks - I had seen them but was unsure, given it has a center box, if it would still fit (when existing dos not).

There is a bracket across the tunnel that may be in the way... so hopefully its retained with this system fitted.

Given the front flange is rotting - I intend to cut it off and weld on a new one - does anyone know what size it is? I would expect that flange sizes are a "thing" so must be a common part to obtain.

Anyone had a towbar fitted with this system? There is not much clearance with the original back box to the towbar so hoped to avoid any pain in that area.

Lastly.... the aftermarket ones dont seem to have the heat shield for the spare - any issues with that?

Thanks

David

I would love an original part... even though its an old bus its well loved! The £600 quid price tag kinda puts me off buying though!

I did toy with the idea of a coupling or just weld a straight pipe in there. There is plenty of room to get the mig all around the pipe to join it - so no clamps needed it seems.

I must say I am surprised given the number of XC's on the road that the choices are so limited. Our bus has done 160K miles now and is otherwise doing great.

Re tow bar and this after market exhaust. I do have the original towbar fitted and no issue at all.

Yes, it is cheap and cheerful, but does the job and has done for almost three years.

Thanks - just ordered one!

Just need to try and find a suitable flange to replace the other side with.

Thanks for all your help.
