Default Pilot Assist & Speed Limits

Does the pilot assist automatically adapt to a changing speed limit?
For example, temp reduction to 50mph through roadworks on an empty motorway?

Mine doesn’t - thankfully. Round here there’s some site speed limits posted that the car thinks are valid speed limits, it’s a bit disconcerting to come round a corner on a NSL road and have the car tell you the limit is 5mph!

Yes, if you allow it in the settings. It uses a combination of speed limits from satnav data, and road sign recognition. The latter means it picks up on temporary limits.

Due to false positives, I doubt if anyone leaves the auto speed limit setting enabled once the novelty wears off!

Some of the false positives can be downright dangerous. E.g. auto-braking because it picked up a 40mph sign from a slip road while the car is doing 70mph on a dual carriageway.

Thanks, I have been through the settings and can't find anything related to speed limits and Pilot Assist. I wonder if Volvo have removed the option due to the limitations you describe.

Pilot Assist and Speed Limit Assist are mutually exclusive so you can't have both at the same time.

Some other car brands offer this function, but it is not available in any Volvo so far.
The adaptive cruise control (pilot assist), does not change the set speed with the change of speed limit signs, and only does so, when there is a vehicle in front.
The speed limiter can't be set together with the cruise control. You need to always press the accelerator.

No pilot assist does not adapt to road sign speed limits.
4 quick taps on the down button brings speed down from 70 to 50mph

Yes. So long as the person in front does

The software is so bad at recognising what the actual speed limit is anyway, so it would be useless.

You can set Pilot Assis to warn you when you exceed the posted speed limit (or the posted speed limit + some set amount). But all you get is the speed limit sign on your dashboard (and HUD) blink. I have it set to blink at +10mph.
Or, at least, that's how it is in the USA. We don't get the speed limiter.
