My S90 which was delivered Feb 2020 has this. Didn't realise until it kicked in on a trip to the Lake District at the end of summer.

I assume it uses sat nav data to judge the curves as it would start to apply braking before I had made any input into the steering.

Seemed to work well, but sometimes (understandably so) it erred on the side of caution and would brake on bends I wouldn't have myself.

Like someone mentioned though - I wouldn't rely on it as sometimes it didn't brake when the bend did need it, so I tended to brake for myself where I needed to.

So did Volvo just get bored halfway through translating those touchscreen icons to Norwegian? :

Anyone had a quote for Pilot Assist 3 in the UK as an upgrade to Pilot Assist 2?

I have just collected a lightly used MY20 V90 and was delighted to see that it has the curve assist (which I assume to be the indicator of Pilot Assist 3).

Looking back at the journey home, there is a long sweeping curve on the motorway which the car slowed to 50mph to take with no traffic ahead, which is why I went searching for the curve assist button when home.

Based on a single journey and the fact that it slowed down a bit too much, I would say that it errs on the side of caution and still has some development for it to be of any real use.

But glad I have it as an option.

To answer my own question - my dealership has confirmed that the Pilot Assist Gen 2 >> Gen 3 upgrade is NOT available for MY19 - XC60's but is only available for MY19 - V60's & S60's.
No one is available to say why.....

I think the guy up their ^ had a good theory.

Not enough processing power in the physical hardware.

They tried to do it on my V60 before the pandemic but it sicked it up again. Volvo don't know why and as there's only 6 months left on the lease I'm not inclined to investigate further.

TBH I think it's a bit disingenuous to advertise it as available at release (along with stuff like side assist etc) and then only fit it to cars manufactured six months later.
