M90l2
I have an M90L2 to move on. 145k miles on the car.
This came off an 1996 940 Estate 2.3LPT. How do I know its an L2, well when I got the car I was checking the gear oil level and there was a sticker on it that said M90L2 (this has since come off). I assumed it had been a replacement and there were marks on the aluminium plate on on the engine by the bell housing that showed it had been removed at some stage. This I should say was the only thing good about the car as I realised the previous owner had been a kite surfer and the boot was infused with salt. I used the car for a couple of years and then laid it up for spares. I stripped it this summer but hung onto the gear box and a few other bits. The car had 145k miles on it but there must be less on the gear box. I can probably get a 1/2 pallet freight to the UK for about £60-75 (Ill need to confirm that). I have no idea what this is worth, I just know they are as rare as hen's teeth. Make me an offer Justin |

hens teeth?
They are not THAT rare and probably worth 250 tops. The real rare box is the manual M90 from a 960......

You say it appears to have recently been apart. Isn't it more likely the box was removed for a clutch change than for gearbox replacement?

I got it with only around 90k on the clock. You would want to be really nasty to the clutch to get that less than that sort of milage out of it. I got 175k out of the first one on my 740.
It was definitely and nicer gearbox and clutch than the one I have on my current 940. I would swap it but I'm going to be moving that on soon enough so there is no point. Justin |

It is the 960 gearbox that is rare. 940 ones are common but there is demand for them when doing swaps etc
