Default Mega mile S80 for sale

Saw this S80 on eBay with 717,000 miles for sale.
I do hope it sells to someone that will continue to put more mikes on it.
Cheers, Luke

I'm in the same boat. Also have four cars at the moment so based on my average annual miles it would take me 70 years to get that one to 1 mill

Would still quite like to own a car with 717k on it though

It mentions in the description that he thinks it has fallen off the top 10 high milers, but if you go on the website (https://www.volvoclub.org.uk/hmc/), there is a 2001 S80 2.5D from England that has 713500 miles on it in 10th place, which must be the same car.

On a related matter,
Can anyone provide an explanation for these mileages ?
Why is this car still running at this mileage when many of it's brethren have found their way to the scrap yard, many miles before ?
It surely isn't just down to maintenance, plenty of other cars will have been serviced appropriately ?
Is it luck ?
Is it just getting the mileage high enough before age takes it's toll, but there will be a lot of components that are mileage related rather than age ?
Or is just a willingness to put the money in to keep it going, is it like Trigger's broom ?

If they are driven softly (taxi car etc) where they are only really used low down in teh rev range they alst for ages. WHen you look at ex taxi's, they always have massive mileage. Well maintaned and not stressed with heavy driving etc.

In 2006-07 it did 78,600 miles or over 200 miles every single day.

Partly down to long journeys, I'd imagine.

This one in the first year of life was doing the equivalent of a return trip from London to Manchester every working day of the year.

I'd far rather buy a car which has done journeys with an average of 50 miles, or 100 miles, than 2 or 3 miles.

If the mileage is equal, the car which has averaged 100 miles per journey will have a lot less wear on suspension, trim and so on. Motorway miles are very forgiving for cars compared to bumping and stop-starting around town roads. Not to mention that engines wear comparatively very little when up to operating temperatures.

The same trusted Indy has serviced it for the last 87 years.

Makes a difference, I'd say. Much rather high miles with that provenance than a lower miles with patchy record.
