Default Towbar removal

My company 2017 V90 R Design D4 goes back when I retire in a few weeks.

I paid for the proper Volvo electrically deployed towbar to be installed when I first had the car and wondered if it was worth getting it removed to sell separately?

I will not be re-using it on another car (I have bought a 2015 XC60 which has the genuine towbar fitted) and don’t see the point in throwing away £1000.

Any suggestions?

I’ll bite…

So find out how much it will cost to remove, how much you could sell it for and whether it’s worth your time & effort to do so.

I had an OEM detachable bar and all electrics removed from my last VW Touareg in 2017 (before we got our first xc90 in fact). Cost £80 from an independent, did sell the kit but it’s large and costly to ship, probably ended up a couple of hundred up. I only did it as the price I’d been offered was a pi$$ take and I’d have stripped the paint off to sell if I could have. Would I bother again…???

In fact I enquired about transferring the Volvo electric bar (dealer fitted) from first xc90 to second and they claimed it wasn’t possible, not sure I believed them but as it was a lease car from different supplying dealers I decided to let it go and stumped up the money again for any hassle free life!

Take into account that the volvo crash bar is removed when the towbar is fitted, this must be refitted if the towbar is removed, I very much doubt you have this heavy crash bar to refit.
The towbar acts as the crash bar when fitted, without it all you have is a plastic bumper with no rear end protection. Not good for any new owner and their family.
And could this leave you vulnerable to litigation if the car was in an accident, my strong advice is leave it in place.

See item 46 in fitting instructions. https://accessories.volvocars.com/en.../V90(17-)/2019

nu11eaf makes a good point, I had the crash bar for the Touareg which was refitted on removing the towbar, I was never ‘given’ the equivalent crash bar part that was taken off when the dealer fitted bar was installed on either of our XC90s

Thanks for the comments. I hadn’t thought about the crash bar.
I don’t think it is worth the bother so I will just leave it on.
Appreciate the guidance folks.

I wonder what the dealer would say if you asked for your crash bar back.
