Default Buying a V50

Hi all
I'm looking to purchase a V50.
It has to be. Automatic, diesel, r design. Not silver

I was initially looking at spending just over 3k but my Mrs said to get one that was 6. Who am I to argue!

I test drove a non r design recently. It claimed to have A powershift gearbox but the shifts seemed a little slow. 1/3 second sort of thing rather than the instant changes in used to in my friends Audi DSG

How can I tell what gearbox the car really has?
What do both the gearbox feel like to drive?

Any other things to look for? Common problems? General owner advice?

Hi
Have no clue ebout either of gearboxes, but I was researching about them just to educate myself and found this archive thread - maybe will come handy.

good luck with car hunt. Remember that R-design is only a trim and not top-of-the-line version so make sure your future car will have all gizmos that you need.
Also - regardless of model - be wary of cars with sunroofs. Those like to leak and if not mainteined and unclogged properly - can create nasty problems. Check for footwells for moist etc, just to be safe.

If i had 6k i wouldnt be buying a V50, you should be able to get a V60 in your budget.

However, i would be putting my money towards a 330/335/530/535d - will feel like a rocketship compared to the volvo (even D5)
