Had a 200cell on my old T4 and it was fine on MOTs. A decat however you'll fail.

@Domhart - you've got axle ping, common as muck on these cars. Get some high strength loctite, take the driveshaft bolt out and with a screw driver, give all the splines a good coating, torque the bolt up and don't drive the car for around 12 hours while it sets, problem solved.

The XC90 bolts are bit of a myth, they work for some but for others do nothing.
Not sure if Dom will get away with a 200cell if he installs the turbo with associated anciliaries. You're looking at 400bhp+!!

Generally you get a 'ping' noise whenever some strain is put on the driveshaft, for example, if you're at a stop and go into reverse, you'll get a ping noise, if you go back into first you'll get another ping, if you've been driving in first and pull away in first again though you'll be fine. It's just slight movement but can really radiate through the whole car when it pings, really annoying common problem on the P1 platform cars. You don't generally get a noise when you're on the move though, only when switching from back and forth etc.

It'll be fine I don't think that turbo will quite make 400 though....

Regardless, plenty of other people running the same and more power than that with no issues come MOT time

...
but beware, once you check & notice that, it will annoy the hell of you I had it for a while before, most likely, but didnt really notice it until read about it, diagnosed and then suddendly it became most annoying thing in the world
All in all its the sign of wear&tear, some say its nothing but annoyance, some its a early signs of hub or shaft wearing off.

YT video on this. Mine are not that bad, cant really provoke that with manual wheel turning, but I hear it when going trom 1 to R and when torque on engine is applied after standstill etc.

Very interesting, I do sometimes here a 'click' in those circumstances but never heard any kind of 'ping' sound, will investigate further*

* i.e. just leave it until it really is a problem.

It various in sounds! My current axle ping is a small clunk felt through the car.

I had it last year but it was a small squeak instead, I could hear it whilst driving. I had 3 knackered engine mounts and every time I shifted up a gear or down a gear or had a burnt of acceleration it drove me mad!

Did the same as I posted earlier, driveshaft bolt off, bit of loctite and next day problem solved

However after my cars been at Volvo for new CV boots and they've had the hub apart I've got it again....More loctite needed...

Yea, as FM said sound may vary. Even on this article it says "ping" is not a correct description as it seem to be just a translation from swedish word. Mine toes metal-metal clunk and plop, not a ping

It used to be Nosh's, saw his V50 in action about a year ago and the best dyno run at I recall was 408/10bhp and 535nm! There was some meth tank voodoo involved too!

So adding loctite to the driveshaft bolt would suggest it was loose before and making this noise? can we live with loose bolts or will it become a bigger problem?

I tried recreating this forward/back action last night and couldn't hear anything, I think my brake pads click a bit though.

so anyway on an update for this, contemplating replacing the 2.5" system with a 3" system. So with the Cat issue on this am thinking if this would do the job and getting a garage to put it into the system.

There is the performance option I am looking at which is a 200CPSI over the standard 400CPSI, im hoping that the performance 200CPSI is still road legal?
