LED are not the answer to all the problems of the world.
The posts above show how replacing filaments by LED can disturb balances of even, cruise control. And using LED in cars not designed for LED might not be legal. That is probably why [some] retaile LED for cars are marked for off road use. And there is a letter somewhere upstairs from a Govt department agaist the legality. . |

The LED headlamp bulbs that are usually marked for off-road use generally aren't designed to mimic the light source pattern of a filament bulb. As such, they won't give the correct beam pattern. Use an LED headlamp bulb that IS designed to mimic a filament bulb and there are no problems with beam pattern, in fact it makes it crisper, even with tarnished reflectors. Only drawback with them is they are more expensive than most of the carp on ebay, usually in the region of £40-70 a pair. Worth it though as they last longer and outperform Osram Nightbreakers which only last a couple of months before their output is compromised.

I've tried a couple of different LEDs in the tail/brake lights, no issues with ABS or CC, but the high level brake light did flicker faintly.
Looks like those 'classic car LEDs' have the same problem as chinabay cheapies - the 5w circuit being far too bright - so it's harder for following drivers to decipher whether you've pressed the brakes or not.

If they weren't different enough on the brake light part, then it wouldn't have passed the MoT in 2017 and 2018 after i'd fitted the bulbs and the other similar car wouldn't have passed in 2016,17, 18 with the same bulbs and similar rear lights (unsmoked though) but i do know what you mean about the cheaper ones. In normal light, to the human eye they definitely look different and the difference at night time is very obvious.

It was a general "Bah! Humbug!" and not aimed at Quality Street. Seasons greetings and all that!

Mine passed the MOT with cheapos, so that's not really indicative of anything. I posted a comparison 3 years ago in gloomy lighting conditions, curiously very similar 'before' and 'after' pics! Whichever way you cut it, the 5w side is too bright.
Two newer styles of LED bulbs available now, maybe they'll be better. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/COB-LED-4...s/232936909136 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/380-Cob-L...s/372396488110
