Just got the pistons to spec and order and then final build can commence
I'm using the standard piston as a template, building them up with chemical metal and machining them back with valve cut outs etc Need to get the right comp ratio which will be the hard part with an intruder piston as it sits above the deck so it will be a little harder to measure the cc and because the valves and cams are so big the cut outs will have to be huge it is going to be a challenge getting the correct comp ratio but it is achievable I was at OMEGA pistons a few months ago with a friend ordering some custom Audi 5cyl pistons for another engine and they were showing me the Volvo TWR touring car pistons as they had a spare set left on the shelf Looked a nice piston but the crown height and bore were wrong for the setup I'm using Once a template piston is made up its getting sent off to CP in the USA for a batch made up I'm in no hurry as I have plently of other projects on the go at the moment to keep me occupied I'm currently building a race jetski, race quad and a trike as well as a turbo motor There all getting there very slowly |

Here are some pics of the sump all welded up top and bottom
The screened scavenge takeoffs are designed and manufactured by Pace Products in the UK who make alot of dry sump systems so they are a proven design Note the main bolt reliefs machined into the base |

Managed to get hold of a cam belt tensioner pully from motor design in Sweden
Crank is a 77mm OEM crank lightened and polished by myself, will be getting the crank assembly sent off for balancing soon |

Hi Austen, nice looking build. I have registered on the forum to see how you get along with interest, I cannot WAIT to hear it running, as I am sure you cant.
I have an idea to also build a rwd n/a Volvo 5pot, I am not even sure which car it will be yet, although I have a short list. My aim is a road/track car with over 200bhp/tonne. Just enough to have some fun with, but without the massive running costs of the big power cars I have had in the past. Anyway, good luck with the rest of the build and please keep the updates coming. |

Hi there
The project is coming along slowly I have all the parts now to build the engine apart from the high comp pistons Still need to do a little work on the car itself such as extra chassis bracing and engine mountings, I recently bought a Esab Tig welding set so that will make my job alot easier now I've finished building the bellhousing and sorted all the spacers for the hydraulic clutch etc and it all works fine and looks great. I have been neglecting this project as of late as I've been busy doing some other projects in the garage. I've been busy re-building a couple of race quads, and ive just about finished redesigning and fabricating a new frame with better suspension geometry Will have to take some more pics and post up soon |

Hi Austen,
I'm following your project with great interest because I will shortly be embarking on a similar build (although, my engine will be in a Volvo 850 saloon and I intend to enter it into the Classic Thunder race series) Any further pictures/updates you can post, or any other info you have that you can e-mail would be gratefully received. Once my build starts, I will post progress updates on here and my blog. Looking forward to seeing more, Ed. |
