Dolby Stereo
Is there a real noticeable difference between the stereo in a C70 with the speaker on the dash and without? Is the one with the dash mount speaker made by Dynaudio?
Many thanks |

You will need the whole system to make a difference. There is also a processing unit and to get the best out of it you really need an SC901 headunit with an amp. The centre dash speaker has its own feed from the headunit - an SC805 does not provide this feed - not sure about the other headunits.
The centre speaker I believe is actually made by Nokia. The left/right dash tweeters in a C70 should be dynaudio. If not then they are a straight swap and easy to change.

Does a standard system without the centre speaker still sound good?

My dad has a 2000MY C70 with the SC901 with the 4x100w amp (located in the boot) and has the dynaudio speakers - but not the dolby system - and it sounds really good. I have an S70 which started off with the basic package - which sounded pretty good. I have then upgraded it using an SC901 with 4x50w amp, dolby system and a variety of speakers - some dynaudio, some alpine, some dual.

The dolby system can be retrofitted relatively easily - they do come up on ebay occasionally or you could try the breakers. The dashboards are interchangeable on the S/V/C 70's up to 1999 after which it is just S/C 70's until 2001? when they stopped making the S70. You will also need the dolby processing unit (which plugs into the back of the headunit) to make it worthwhile.

Also remember that the SC901 is prone to failure completely at any time and will probably be replaced. VBest, Trekker |

I replaced my sc901 for a sony head unit but the amp and speakers do sound good even with a third party headunit. With the standard 901, it sounded great but I wanted to be able to play mp3's etc so had to go 3rd party.

If you frequently use the changer then yes you will wear it out. We both have 6 disc changers in the boot and I use that one more often as it will play my copied cd's. I got an SC901 mainly for the adjustable equalizer as it can do front & rear speakers seperately.
