engine oil in g/box??
hi took my car into indie to make a start on a few prob it had over passed 3 weeks since mot dropped it off and asked them to change auto g/box oil when i went to collect in man tells me i was lukie to not have damaged g/box so i asked why he said the oil in g/box was engine oil?? he said its ok and its not the first time he has see this before from people who have a worn auto box apparantly its a dodgy car saleman trick to keep it quiet has anyone else just purchest a older car i.e before 1990 cheak your oil just thort i would let u know yours john

Are you sure it's not just burnt ATF. The oil will go black if it is burnt, ie old and worked hard. The transmission oil in my 1993 850 2.0 20V Auto was black when I bought the car (136,000).
A good flush and all was well. P.S you should post this in the 850 forum.
