I don't know where it is on the XC60 but someone here must know its exact location. When I took my V70 siren out I thought I'd just leave it and never have to hear the alarm again, that didn't work as the alarm just sounds the horn when the module is disconnected. From what you say it does sound like an iffy alarm module. Hopefully someone will let you know where to find it. I'm interested to know as I may consider doing mine as it's getting on a bit now.

I had my original Subaru Cat 1 alarm replaced last year, and it was making that kind of noise. The (helpful, small) dealer said dry solder issues rather than the internal backup battery which I thought, and they worked on an it to make it last another couple of years.

The control module was then discontinued, so it was easier and more reliable to replace the whole system in the end at home by a specialist.

OK Phil, I will post on here again if there are any further developments. At the moment I'm inclined to leave it to Volvo unless I can be sure of its location.
At the age of 73 I'm not willing to have another wrestling match with the inner wing shield. It nearly won yesterday!

Ah that's interesting. If it is a dry joint problem then maybe I'm better off having the whole unit replaced. Another concern is that apparently some batteries will leak gunge over the circuit board so I guess that would have a similar effect.

That also sounds familiar when I was trawling the Subaru forums !

I'm with you on that one, at the age of 71 I can do the work but find it hard to get up again! I recently serviced mine, and although it all went well, I was glad to find ibuprofen in the bathroom!

What I find surprising is that now, in my mind, a lot of physical jobs look to be relatively "easy". In practice, when doing them, they seem to take twice as long and are invariably difficult.

I have this same problem with my 2020 XC60 - how much did Volvo charge to replace please?

Hi Bethan

The job was done at my local Volvo main dealer. I didn't shop around for a price as I just wanted it fixed quick.
The charge was:
Parts 196.50
Labour 168.00
Total inc VAT 437.40

The alarm hasn't gone off since.
