I use a Mottez 4-bike carrier on my XC60.

It has a bracket that locates lower down the towbar "swan neck" so it won't flap about.

No problem with electrics, just have to switch the parking sensors off when reversing.....

I presume that you do not have the official Volvo towbar electrics? I have no issue when reversing and my electrics were installed by Volvo.

No, not a proper Volvo one.

Does the Volvo kit have trailer stabilty assist?
Is the ESP a bit confused as it thinks there should be a trailer on the back?

I'm looking at a Thule rack at the moment on eBay with 7 pin electrics but I'm told that the Volvo is 13 pin. Are you using some form of converter? Or is the Thule rack you have 13 pin?

there are plenty of 13 pin to single 7 converters around
http://www.towsure.com/product/13_pi...n_Plug_Adaptor

Volvo towbars fitted by the dealer have the trailer stability software upgrade/update and also isolate the parking sensors and fog lights when a trailer is connected.

I beleive you can choose what electric pack you want as well- i have a 7 pin only on my MY10 V70 later models may vary.

My Thule rack came with 13pin electrics. The converter plugs are ok if you are borrowing someone else's trailer but don't use them all the time as they're not very reliable - I converted all my trailers and lighboards to 13pin, didn't take long and the plugs are not much......

Volvo sell a 7 pin electric kit for the tow bar. To get the reversing lamps and reversing sensors to work correctly when the rack is fitted you also need the Volvo Trailer Module (TRM) and software download.

Having checked the car today I have counted 7 pins. It's a Volvo socket so it seems the 7 pin solution would in fact be fine.
