Default Exhaust change opinions

Hi all,

I am thinking about changing my exhaust on my 1.9D, ever since I have had the car ive never been too happy about how it looks, the issue is that there is a large circular cutout in the bumper, but the 1.9D exhaust is a square backbox with a small offset pipe.

I am not looking to change anything performance wise, so I will be probably just looking for a backbox only change, I might also lower it slightly but thats for another time. I am thinking of fitting a round 3" japcan which should neatly fit the cutout.

My car will just have a few subtle mods on it, im not looking for extreme, im not looking for power (thats for the drag kart) just something subtle from OEM, I bit like how I have OEM rims which are a different colour, or the sidemarkers that are slightly tinted.

Should I just go with a simple aftermarket backbox? Not sure what the exhaust options are on the 1.9D as most are for T4s.

How about fitting the backbox off a T4? (not sure if it will) they are an oval that fill the hole nicely

Gatos had my mate fit a jetex exhaust on to his, looks quite nice, dont think theres many exhaust options out there for the dirty diesel

thought of just cutting the exit pipe straight and fitting a trim on it? cheap and cheerful plus its still running the stndard exhaust for emissions etc so wont need to change it for mot time

Diesels don't actually need to run a back box, the turbo and cat act as silencers so I could just run a straight pipe cat back lol I was thinking of perhaps cutting the OEM backbox outlet straight and then adding a trim, but then it might look a bit odd with a small pipe with a large trim lol

Sounds like best option to me (and cheapest). Just make connection as far back to the silencer as possible and bumper/valance will hide it. Result

The previous owner of our 1.9D had cut off the tip of the exhaust and fitted a cheap aftermarket end tip that looked cool. However, one day when I was reversing the car, the tip just fell off disintegrated from rust. I was planning to also retrofit the T4 oval tip as I had a spare one. However, I then found this one (see picture below) at a bargain price and I installed that instead....

They were £300-£400 at the time, but I won mine on ebay (brand new & boxed) for a fraction of that amount
