2016 v40 D2 Dual Mass Flywheel - After Effects!
Hello fellow Volvo owners,
Four weeks ago my 2016 v40 D2 dual mass flywheel presented me with loud knocking noises inside my gearbox. Volvo assist took my car to the local Volvo dealership and they have replaced the DMF and clutch under warranty as its only clocked up 17000 miles! (I've done 4000, Volvo who previously owned it did 13000) My question is can a DMF failure damage other things? Since receiving to back it has a soft knocking/tapping noise and the engine sounds rough. Volvo have tried 3 times to fix unsuccessfully. Its going in again for a fourth time next week. Any thoughts on what these noises could be? Thank you in advance. |

The flywheel normally only damages other components if it's failure is ignored. Its quite an involved job removing the gearbox to replace the flywheel so I would say the noises you are hearing are probably because something hasn't been put back together just right.
For example my recently purchased v70 has had some work done on the turbo pipe work in its past. It started going into limp mode. The cause was a loose clamp that had no been tightened properly last time someone had it apart. Tightened back up and all is well. I would just have a look round the engine bay, remove the engine cover and just make sure everything is secure and looks to be in place properly.
