Default V60 Tailgate Strut

Yesterday morning, the car was covered in frost, when I opened the tailgate. There was a large crump and the gate stopped opening about half way. On inspection it was obvious that one of the struts had broken, presumably due to water in the casing which had frozen. I'm not sure how sufficient water had got in there to cause the problem, and how to prevent it happening again. Has anyone else had the same problem?
Fortunately the strut is still working OK, but a new one is on its way.

There were a few posts about this very problem a few years ago.

Thanks, I'll bear that in mind when talking to the dealer.

Took the car in today, for the replacement strut to be fitted, (Volvo covering most of the cost) only to be told that the design has been changed so they have to replace both struts. Unfortunately that wasn't flagged when they ordered the replacment, so the car has to go back tomorrow.

Have you a rough idea of the cost? I’ve seen some youtube footage but it was a different model and set up

You wouldn’t by any chance have the part number fo the electronic tailgate struts? I also am having issues on my 2019 v60 d4 redesign.

This is exactly what happened with my ones. I greased the rusty bit and glued the plastic part back into place. It cured it and was OK for another year until I got rid of the car.

I can confirm the replacement ones are quite different though, thinner and slightly slower to raise on my new car, clearly they had an issue with the seals on the original design.

I have the same issue, as the genuine ones are very expensive has anyone tried a pattern part from ebay?

I bought and fitted these…

The price on Autodoc seems to vary a lot on a daily basis so it’s all about timing
