baby seat in the front - is it legal?
Hi all,
I am faced with a dilemma. I have twins and normally they sit in their "matching" britax rennesaince seats in the back and usually enjoy the view from the safety of the rear of the car. I am planning a trip in a couple of weeks where i will need to to carry my mum and wife as well as the two twins. With the two baby seats in the back, there is no space for any passangers. I was planning on doing the following Put one baby in the front (front facing seat) put second baby in the back in the middle of the bench mum and wife can sit in the back either side of the baby seat. My question:- is it acceptable to put a front facing baby seat in the front of my V40 bearing in mind it has sips. Im not sure if it has a passanger side airbag however I would assume being a volvo it must have one. I have put my baby on the front seat of a car with no airbags in the past. My belief is that the issue is with rear facing baby seats and airbags. Has anyone researched this before or have any pointers. Ta |

afaiaa Volvo released a research note regarding baby seats and stated the side air bags are ok with a child seat in the front as the bag inflates up the side rather than into the face.
Obviously any air bag in the front dash would have to be deactivated. http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/press/pd...en-in-cars.pdf page 10 "Do side air bags pose any risk to the baby?" "No, not if the baby is in a Volvo." Last edited by cootuk; Feb 16th, 2007 at 21:17. |

I have a V70 T5 2001 and also 3 daughters in car seats. On speaking to Volvo about putting eldest daughter in front passenger seat in her car seat i was advised not to as of side bags if activated pushing her intowards the middle of the car, also has curtain and front bags which could burn her if deployed. All 3 of them are on the back seat, bit of a squeeze but they just about fit.I and the wife have no skin left on the back of our hands.!!!!!!!!!!!!.
