Rattling turbo heat shield
My car is a 2013 S60 T5
Yesterday I noticed a sort of rattle / resonance sound when the engine was under load. It sounded like it was coming from the engine so I thought it might be a heat shield. Today I had a poke about and reached round to where I think the turbo heat shield would be and sure enough it's loose. I had the turbo replaced a couple of years ago and I've got a good mind to take it back and complain about their shoddy workmanship. Not really. But how do I get to it to sort it out? I'm presuming from underneath so that'll be fun on the driveway. Obviously it's there for a reason but would it be safe to run without it? Any ideas? |

My turbo'd Subarus had this issue in the past where the front heat shield corroded around the bolt holes and people used oversize washers to fix. My last Audi had a rattle from the rear at idle which was permanently fixed with a local garage weld. Some people remove, but I'd be inclined to repair.
