Default seats

I'm getting the two 1988 760 front seats in tan leather made good as new then putting them in my 740 turbo. The underseal is being removed in the floor pans then I can bang a load of waxoyl in. There's surface rust on the inner seam so I'll be treating it with phosphoric acid then rustbuster .

Discovered yesterday the fuel pump/sender unit seal had given up the ghost as it left a little puddle of Super Unleaded when i filled up.

New seal (1367623) ordered, i'm told by the Volvo parts guy this fits all 740, 760, 940 and 960 estates with the same tank and relatively cheap at about £11 - i've probably lost more than that in fuel that's made a bid for freedom, either in liquid or vapour form.

Should be there today, will collect tomorrow or friday and hopefully get it done ASAP after that.

And I must fit those copper leads and resistor-less spark plugs.

Drove it!

It's had a few spells off the road with niggling faults - flaky lights, dribbling coolant etc - which with one thing another (a mixture of other things more pressing and the Welsh weather) I simply didn't have time to sort out. All in all, the old girl has really been starting to suffer from the neglect.

Now that those bits are fixed and it's had a service and MoT, I'm determined to use it more regularly. So I've been driving to work in it this week, giving the Fast Ford a few days holiday.

At some point, I will have to bite the bullet and get the gearbox bearings sorted out. That's why it doesn't go out on long journeys these days...

I was truly gutted when I missed 222,222. Sad but true.

I know the feeling - i missed 111,111 on my other beast!

Funny thing was yesterday while picking up a part for the 760 at my local (20 miles away!) Volvo dealer, the parts guy was asking me what the mileage was and i replied just coming up to 222k. Got home and didn't notice the 221999 until i tokk the hound out. Got to where i take her and it had just rolled onto 222000 as i pulled into the car park. Result!

Mine will never make 222,222 ... because the odometer has frozen at 217k !!

I suppose I could try and re-solder the connections, but it's built in such a way that access is nigh-on impossible.

So the fuel gauge doesn't work... the odometer doesn't work... Working out how much fuel I've got is definitely becoming "interesting"!
