Will be looking to upgrade when I get back anyway - apparently Nissen make all-metal replacements?

Cheers
If you get in touch with that firm i linked to, they apparently do upgrades as well.

Not wishing to be a Job's comforter but 1000 miles is enough to give you a headache - hope it's ok for you though. I'd recommend Nissen, I have their radiators on both 740s and my Mercedes Coupe.

Jon.

Even 1000 yards would be enough if it was the wrong time/place on the M25 with a dodgy radiator!

I saw your earlier post Jon, but it was just a comment which on this public Forum requires no further insight into my early life.

I can't speak for Jon but i've experienced a duff radiator making itself known 150 miles from home on the M6 roadworks a few years back. The only saving grace was it was freezing (0-3C) outside so i could whack the heater up full so it didn't overheat in traffic.

Not a "harbinger of doom", just realism.

I have a nissens rad in my 240 for 5 years and 18 months in my 940 turbo. Both no issues and made of aluminium and plastic.
Don't know if they do all metal.

Also have a nissens AC condenser on the 940.

In many decades of car ownership I've only had one radiator failure and that was in my 1971 BMW 2002. I was about to leave home for university after the Easter break, started the car on the driveway and boom...rad emptied all it's contents.

I've had a few more than that Jon - in chronological order :

Marina 1300 - blocked rad caused multiple HGFs and cracked head.

Rover 3500SE (SD1) - ATF heat exchanger leaked allowing coolant into the box causing failure

Hyundai Stellar 1.6 GSL - rad blocked causing HGF/head warpage, Replaced with Cortina rad.

Datsun 240KGT Skyline - leaked from all soldered joints! Oddly cured itself!

Rover 827 Coupé - fins disappeared, bottom 5 cores blocked, rest of rad fairly blocked (The car on the M6 that showed a duff rad!)

Rover 827 Sterling - very recent one, tubes come adrift from end caps, minor leaks at present, trying to source new one.

Over 33 years and 235+ cars, that's not bad i suppose!
